Race dates for 6th Annual race are Saturday October 29 and Sunday October 30. Same as last year but with live music during A race, more food, more beer and bigger payouts/prizes. Mark it down.

Cyclocross Practice Starts Wednesday 9/7 continuing weekly on Wednesday thru Halloween. Plan is to start at 5:30 pm with some skills training (starts, barriers, carrying and such) and then at 6:30 we will do 2 x 20 minute simulated races.

Hope to have some introductory mtb skills training for kids. Call me if you want to help with kids or if you want to bring your kids.

Will be announcing very soon new catering/food sponsors plus beer and other cool sponsors!

Also, stay tuned for Gopro course video of 3 miles mtb/cross loop!

Open Practice

The course is designed. I added single track sections and a few other new features. Several of us will be riding the course this Wednesday 10/14 and the following Wednesdays (10/21 and 10/28) starting at approximately 5:30pm. All are welcome.

After much deliberation, I decided on a costume for the race. It was a tough decision. I learned last year that wigs are no good as they do not "breath" which leads to overheating. The ideal costume does not slow you down, allows you the breath and looks sweet. I think I found something that works on at least two of the three. Not this one.

Save the Date for Twice the Fun!

The 4th Annual Chagrin River Cyclocross will be a TWO DAY EVENT for 2009. Slated for Saturday October 31st and Sunday November 1st, this years races will once again be part of the Lake Effect Cyclocross Series. Once gain, plan on a Halloween theme, hot racing, delicious beer and chili and a large bonfire. New for this year, will be kids races and kids games.

Race Report & Results

The 3rd Annual Chagrin River Cyclocross Challenge was held under clear skies and pleasant 60+ degree temperatures on Saturday November 1st. The festivities began at 10:00 am with the ceremonial tapping of the kegs and continued throughout the day as 91 racers and countless spectators enjoyed the colorful fall foliage of the 15 acre venue situated along the banks of the Chagrin River.

Although, not mandatory, Halloween costumes were highly encouraged. Many racers were in the spirit and were awarded for their efforts with cash prizes and beer handups. The beneficiary of this years race was Fast Track Cycling with the day's events raising just over $500 that will be used towards the efforts to build an indoor velodrome in the Cleveland area.

Aside from Fast Track Cycling, the day's other winners were Sally Price (Summa Care) in the Women's Race, Robert Sroka (Lake Effect) in the C Class, Ethan Sopenski (Unattached) in the Juniors, Ben Faller (Mountain Road Cycles) in the B race and Steve Twining (Trek Area 106) in the A race. Fast Track Cycling, Inc.

The 3rd Annual Chagrin River Cyclocross Challenge will take place Saturday November 1, 2008 on 15 acres of private land located in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. All proceeds from the event will benefit Fast Track Cycling, Inc. (www.fasttrackcycling.org), a 501c3 non-profit that is developing an indoor track cycling velodrome in Cleveland Ohio. We are anticipating over 100 participants and over 150 spectators for the cyclocross race on November 1st.

Fast Track Cycling, Inc. is currently negotiating to purchase a 9 acre parcel of land within the City of Cleveland upon which they will construct a 5+ acre enclosed dome which will accomodate a 250m track, running track and other amenities. The project will revitalize a blighted area as well as provide recreational, wellness, and other services to children of all ages and adults. To date, Fast Track has been funded by a $30,000 grant from Civic Innovation Lab and other donations totaling $5,000.

Course Open for Practice

Starting this Wednesday, we will be doing some practice out at the course along with finishing up some work on the course. We'll get started at around 5:30, but get there whenever you can. We'll do some course work and then ride until dark, or longer if you bring lights. Afterwards, we'll order some pizza hang out around a camp fire. This forecast calls for some great fall weather...so come on out.

Date Set for 3rd Annual Chagrin River Cyclocross Challenge

After a 1 year hiatus, the Chagrin River Cyclocross Challenge is back. The date is Sunday October 26th and the race will be part of the 2008 Lake Effect Cyclocross series. The course will be the same as previous years with only a few small changes. Start times and other details will be posted here.

The promoter, me, will be pledging 100% of the profits to Fast Track Cycling, a 501c3 that is constructing an indoor velodrome in Cleveland.

The race will feature a Halloween theme. Costumes are not required, however, if you want to be officially scored, you must race with a costume on. There will be awards for the best and most creative costumes.

Also we'll be bringing back a better than ever beer garden with a to be announced beer sponsor. Course will be open on Saturday 10/25 for pre-riding and there will be camping available Saturday night as well.

Sometime in late September or early October the course will be available for pre-riding during the week. Stay tuned for more information.
